Early Detection and Regular Eye Check Up – Key to Prevent Glaucoma: Dr Raveendra, Glaucoma Specialist

Sankar Foundation observed World Glaucoma Week from March 9th to 15th, 2025, with a series of awareness programs at the hospital focusing on the causes, prevention, and impact of glaucoma.

As part of the week-long celebration, a rally was organized on 12th March from the main hospital at Naidutota to Vepagunta Junction and returned to the hospital featuring placards to promote awareness about glaucoma.

The rally was led by Dr. T. Raveendra, Director of CQI & Research and Head of the Glaucoma Department of Sankar Foundation, and saw enthusiastic participation from doctors, employees, and students from the hospital.  Speaking at the event, Dr. Raveendra highlighted that glaucoma, often referred to as the “silent thief of sight,” encompasses a group of eye conditions that can irreversibly damage the optic nerve, leading to vision loss if not detected early and, in severe cases, blindness. Dr Raveendra added that early detection plays a pivotal role in the effective management of glaucoma. Advances in diagnostic technologies have greatly enhanced the accuracy and reliability of glaucoma detection, enabling timely intervention and better outcomes, he stated.
